Mayfest holds special memories for me. When I was younger my grandparents were very big on volunteering, and one of the organizations my grandfather, Carlton McCarthy, was very active in was RAAI. Every year he helped organize Mayfest and my family always attended, buying the plants RAAI members lovingly tended, eating good food, listening to good music and watching the Kids on the Block puppet shows. Mayfest hasn't changed much over the years, and though my grandfather is no longer here to help, he would be proud to see that RAAI continues to do so much to help the mentally disabled. If you're planting annuals in your garden this spring, please consider stopping by Mayfest to check out their selection of plants and support this worthy cause!
